MACRED Member Spotlight: Stand Out Nutrition

Enfield, Conn. - The smoothie and energy tea bar Stand Out Nutrition proves that it’s not necessary to have a huge marketing budget to succeed in business. Instead, owner Michelle Fairman earmarks much of her marketing budget to be part of Marketing and Cupcakes™, a membership she knows she’ll recoup with marketing ideas.

“I see the value so much that I was the first one to sign up for MACRED 2023 Membership,” she said. “Anyone who has a small business definitely needs to be a part of this group.”

Fairman describes Marketing and Cupcakes™ as a combination of networking and education. The events provide more personal connections with other businesses, then each session focuses on a different marketing topic presented by founder Mychal Connolly.

“Every single event I’ve been to, you have that ‘aha’” moment,” she said.

“I think when most people think of marketing, they read too much into everything,” she said. “I just love how he dummies things down and simplifies it.”

After every MAC event Fairman tries to create action items for Stand Out Nutrition and thinks about how the topic could be specifically incorporated into her own business.

Through the advertising and marketing club, she’s found ways to market her smoothie and tea bar and has made personal connections with other entrepreneurs who are part of the group.

Fairman has tried to attend every MAC event since the inaugural one. “I’ve been hooked ever since,” she said.

Grand Opening

Stand Out Nutrition opened in Enfield in mid-November as Fairman’s second location, after Nutrition First in Agawam. She had been searching for a new spot to grow her business and eventually found the right one.

“There’s a huge market in the Enfield area,” she said. “Enfield is a very busy community. There really isn’t anything like this in town,”

The business offers energy teas and smoothies in more than four dozen flavors within a safe and home-like atmosphere.

As a female small business owner, Fairman recognizes how important it is to be a part of the Enfield community and give back. The Enfield business has donated more than 600 free teas into community since opening five weeks ago.

“I’m going to give back to the people who help support me,” Fairman said. “Treat people well, and it’s going to come back.”

Personalized Marketing

Beyond her MAC membership, Fairman has participated in private MAC consultations with Connolly. These sessions allow them to focus on what she is trying to accomplish with her Stand Out Nutrition. Fairman said he helps to outline a plan for her business, then she can put it into action.

“He’s doing all the thinking for us,” Fairman said.

These private sessions have helped her change and restructure her social media messages to target different customers, whether they’re high schoolers, or stay-at-home moms.

“Every time I write a post I have Myke in the back of my head,” Fairman said.

She says that between his marketing suggestions and her own marketing knowledge, she’s able to help her business grow and thrive. Thanks to her social media campaigns her business is increasing rapidly.

The name Stand Out Nutrition was inspired by a blog post by Connolly who also owns Stand Out Truck®. He reminded readers that businesses need to stand out above the rest and find ways to be different. That post was another aha moment for Fairman. She knew that Stand Out Nutrition was the right name, and moved forward with his permission.

“No one will really compare to the product I have, but I wanted to stand out above the rest,” she said.
